Q1. What are the benefits of the Online Checking Service?

The Online Checking Service is easy to use and is free of charge. You and your authorised parties could check the driving licence status at anytime and anywhere and save your time on queuing at Licensing Office. Besides, you can authorise several parties to check your driving licence status by completing his authorisation online instead of writing authorisation letters for each authorised party.

You may call 1823 whenever you have any enquiry about the Online Checking Service.
 

Q3. What are the system requirements of the computer used by Internet users of the Online Checking Service?

The Online Checking Service is designed to work with the operating systems and software used by the majority of visitors to our website.

The software requirements are as follows:

  • Operating Systems: Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 or Mac OS X, or Linux with Kernel 2.2.14 or above.
  • Web Browsers: Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 to 11, or Mozilla Firefox (Latest Version), Chrome (Latest Version), or Safari 5 to 8
  • JavaScript enabled
  • Java Plugin: the latest version of Sun Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
  • Adobe Reader 9 or above

The hardware requirements are as follows:

  • CPU: Pentium 500MHz compatible or above
  • RAM: 256MB or above
  • Screen Resolution: 1024 x 768 preferred
 

Q4. Is there any time out limit for the Online Checking Service?

The Online Checking Service will automatically log out if you leave your computer idle for longer than 15 minutes.
 

Q5. If I am a Hong Kong driving licence holder but I do not have a Hong Kong Identity Card, can I use the service?

As long as you hold a Hong Kong driving licence, you can use the Online Checking Service.
 

Q6. Do I need to apply for a linkup to TD portal again after I have renewed or re-issued my driving licence?

Yes, you have to apply for a linkup to TD portal again after you have renewed or re-issued your driving licence.
 

Q7. Does my authorised party need to be a Hong Kong driving licence holder?

No, your authorised party does not need to be a driving licence holder.
 

Q8. When will I receive an activation code?

If your request for linking up to the Online Checking Service is successfully processed, the activation code will be sent to you at your correspondence address registered with Transport Department within 3 working days.
 

Q9. How long does each authorisation for a third party to check driving licence status last for?

Each authorisation lasts for 14 calendar days.
 

Q10. How many third party can I authorise?

There is no limits to the number of authorisation you make.
 

Q11. Can I extend my authorisation?

Yes, you can extend your authorisation by 14 calendar days once per day. However, if an authorisation has already expired, you cannot extend it.
 

Q12. Can I disable my authorisation?

Yes, you can disable your authorisation for a third party to check your driving licence status at any time.
 

Q13. How can I know whether my authorised person has already checked my driving licence status?

You can check whether your authorised person has checked your driving licence status through “Audit Log”, which comprises of the date and time on / at which your authorised person checked your licence status.
 

Q14. Do I need to input the activation code every time I check or authorise a third party to check my driving licence status?

No, once the Online Checking Service is activated, you are not required to input the activation code again in your subsequent logons. However, if you have not logged on to the Service for 3 years, your account will be cancelled. If you wish to use the Service again, you will have to re-apply for the Service.
 

Q15. Can I and my authorised party save my driving licence status using the System?

Yes, you and your authorised can save the driving licence status in Portable Document Format (pdf).
